Is it possible to install Aven without the entire Survex package being installed? Just wondering

Not currently. And an installer with just aven wouldn't actually be much smaller (I assume you're thinking of for Windows, and I don't have the sizes for that to hand, but aven requires the wxWidgets GUI library and C++ runtime, and it contains a lot of code anyway), so it doesn't seem worth the extra effort it would take to maintain two different installers.
